The 14th of October was a day to remember for surfers and people in general in Ericeira, Portugal. The site was officially dedicated as a World Surfing Reserve and was then the first place in Europe. The World Surfing Reserve is a organisation that was founded in Australia in 2009 by an international group of surfers, scientists and environmentalists, to create a global model for proactive surf break protection as a global network.  I hope France will follow as the next country having a site on their list, here are some fantastic breaks and beautiful endless beaches. Why not Hossegor for example?

Den 14e Oktober kommer surfare och människor i Ericeira, Portugal att minnas. Platsen var den första att bli nominerad i Europa som "World Surfing Reserve". The World Surfing Reserve är en organisation som bildades 2009 i australien av en internationell grupp av surfare, vetenskapsmän och miljöaktivister.  För att skapa ett globalt nätverk för att skydda våra vågor och stränder världen över. Jag hoppa att Frankrike kommer att följa i Ericeiras fotspår att få en plats med på listan, här finns ju fantastiska vågor och oändliga stränder. Varför inte Hossegor till exempel?

I remember when this happend, when then 13 year old Bethany Hamilton lost her arm in a Tiger shark attack. How she struggled her way back to surfing to paddle with only one arm and to be one of the best surfer girls. She wrote her authobiografie Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board in 2004.  The Hollywood drama Soul surfer based on the book was released in 2011 it contains all cheesy Hollywood ingredients but it is true and inspiring and absolute fantastic story and is an absolute must see for me its true amazing and really inspiring. It is out on Blue Ray and DVD.

Jag kom ihåg när detta  hände när då 13 åriga Bethany Hamilton förlorade sin ena arm i en Tigerhajattack. I have to say this tube is huge and fat. This shot is from end August and they say it was the biggest swell in 15 years at Teahupoo in Tahiti. Keala Kennelly was one of the riders, now she is nominated in Billabongs XXL Awards 2012 in girl perfomance, good luck Keala you are so worth winning.

Jag måste säga att den här tuben är enorm och riktigt fet och tung. Fotot är från slutet av Augusti och det sägs att det var det största vågorna på 15 år vid Teahupoo i Tahiti. Keala Kennelly var en av åkarna och nu är hon nominerad i Billabongs XXL Awards 2012 i girl performance, lycka till Keala du är verkligen värd att vinna.

How many times havent I stand there at the beach with my board under the arm, looking at the perfect swell just rolling in and thinking can I go out there or rather this is way to scary?
Richard Smith has written a very interesting and resonable article just about that, fear.

"At some point we’ve all been intimidated by the surf conditions:
“I don’t think I can I make this drop”
“I can’t handle a swell this big”
“These waves are breaking way too fast for me”
So next time before I go back with the board under my arm still dry in my hair because I didnt jump in. I going to think about what he wrote and go back put the leach on and paddle out.


Hur många gånger har jag inte stått där på stranden med brädan under armen, sett dom perfekta vågorna bara rulla in och tänkt kanjag verkligen gå ut där eller snarare detta är alldeles för läskigt.

Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot I have read all her books. Agatha Christie the most famous crime writher of all. She was not only wellknown as a author but also one of the early girls enjoying the surf. It was already 1921. On the the photo above you can see her old board, when she was surfing in South Africa. The book about her year as surfer girl will be out soon.

Miss Marple och Hercule Poirot jag har lästa alla hennes böcker. Agatha Christie deckardrottningen. Hon var inte bara välkänd som författare utan en av de första surfande tjejerna det var redan 1921. På fotot ovan kan du se hennes bräda när hon surfade i Sydafrika. Boken on hennes surfarliv kommer ut snart.

So this is the wetsuit im going to buy for the winter a Rip Curl G-bomb 3/2. Just black and simple I made the misstake in the past to buy a light blue one. Thought I would work with my eyes or something. Instead it made me look like a new character in the Teletubbies. So my advice if you arent two dimensional keep is to keep it simple, black is the best and stay away from any different patterns.

Så detta är våtdräkten som jag skall köpa i vinter en Rip Curl G-bomb 3/2. Svart och enkel, jag gjorde misstaget en gång att köpa en ljusblå, trodde den skulle gå fint till mina ögon. I stället såg jag ut som en ny karaktär i Teletubbies. så mitt råd om du inte är två dimensionell är att köpa enklast möjliga, svart är bäst och håll dig borta från mönstrade.

The Rip Curl Pro Portugal is on so now all the world best surfers are down in Peniche and its pumping. I wonder what wetsuit Matt Wilkinson gonna have this time I heard it one with lots of sardines printed everywhere.

Rip Curl Pro Portugal är igång så nu är världens bästa surfare ner i Peniche och det är riktigt bra vågor. Undrar vilket tryck Matt Wilkinson våtdräkt har den här gången, har hör rykten om att det är en med sardiner på.

Hmmm...and what happend today my favorite surfer in the competition Owen Wright lost!? against yes of course really good surfer Jordie Smith. But anyway I really wanted him in Quikpro France 2011 final it was really nice to watch the competition today because it was a good size on the waves!!

Hmmm...och vad hände idag min favoritsurfare Owen Wright förlorade, ja Jordy Smith var jättebra men jag vill verkligen ha honom i finalen av Quikpro France 2011, det var i allafall toppen att se tävlingen för det var bra size på vågorna!!

On of the biggest competition in surfing in europe is on Quikpro France 2011, I just love watching really good surf I am so lucky because I have VIP pass for the whole competetion and get free lunch and beer every day;D

And a big plus is that the waves are absoluteamazing ;D
